The grooming manager, Danielle, at the Villa Italia location is excellent. I have been bringing my little dog Chloé to Danielle for about 7 years. She is very good with my dog, who is now a senior and requires a little extra attention. Danielle is patient and loving towards not only my little girl but all dogs. I have followed her to each store that she's worked at. I live in Aurora and drive to Lakewood because I don't trust anyone other than Danielle with my Chloé. Thank you Danielle and Petco for hiring an excellent groomer. There's more to grooming than just cutting hair.


I want to tell you about my bad experience today at Denver’s I-25 & Colorado Blvd. Petco location. I needed some help in the tropical fish area, and a young man came to assist. I asked for the group of Neons they had left in the tank (10), and he asked the size of my tank, and I replied 30 gallons. He asked how many fish I had in the tank. I replied, unsure of the exact number, but I’ve owned a tank for 50 years and know what I’m doing, so it’s fine. With an attitude, he replied, I don’t care, I need a number because we care about our animals here. I looked at the arrogant prick and said 7. He replied all you had to do was make a number up. I looked down the way at the feeder tank filled with numerous dead fish, the algae growing in most of their tanks, and said, I don’t need anything today, and I walked out. On the one hand, big box stores like this have made pet life shopping convenient, but on the other, they have killed the tropical fish industry and put most of the independent stores out of business. Selections today in big box stores are a fraction of what they used to be at the independent stores, and almost always, their tanks are not taken care of and are filled with algae. Worst of all, they’ve trained their young employees to believe they are the experts in this industry when they know only a fraction of what their clientele know. If Petco truly cared about the fish going to a good home, they would confirm that the fish being purchased are going with a similar type of fish at home, community, or aggressive. Then mention that the combined length of fish in the tank shouldn’t exceed the number of gallons for the tank size. Let the customer question that if needed. The number of fish compared to the number of gallons of a tank is too abstract of an equation, and Petco should not use that question. I’m a small business owner and have been in the customer service industry for a long time. I know that friendly help is hard to find. That young, arrogant prick working at Petco should be moved off the floor and not allowed to work with customers. I went elsewhere, purchased my fish, and they are happy in their clean tank.


Buyer beware. 40 years of Chow chows…first time Standard Poodle, thought I’d come to a shop who would help me navigate the difficulty in keeping my Poodle longhaired..what a nightmare. Worst haircut ever, and I’m out the only one to say so… exactly what I would never want, totally opposite from what we asked for. So disappointed. Don’t fall for the 10%off first visit…2nd visit, they show who they really are. Will never go back.
