Meditation in Everyday Life provides you with all the tools you need to establish a strong and consistent meditation practice — in a setting of support and community.

While meditation has many proven benefits, establishing a consistent personal practice can be challenging. Meditation in Everyday Life is designed to help new meditators learn the foundation of mindfulness meditation practice and bring the benefits to their daily lives. Through establishing a consistent meditation practice, we learn to relax and simply be with whatever is going on in our lives. Over time, meditation helps us to cultivate courage, humor and stability in the face of the daily complexities we all experience — our jobs, relationships and all aspects of daily life.

As a theme throughout the course, we’ll explore the Shambhala view that creating stability and gentleness in our minds can expand outward to our friends, family, neighbors and society as a whole. We will explore these main topics:

Meditation in Everyday Life is the first course in the Everyday Life Series of the Shambhala Training curriculum. The Shambhala Training path of practice and study consists of weekly classes and weekend retreats suitable for both beginning and experienced meditators. It is open to people of any spiritual tradition.

Our Generosity Policy: We have a generosity policy to make our offerings available to all who wish to participate. If the program price is more than you can afford, please offer an amount. A suggested minimum is $25.

My name is Derik Eselius. I founded Denver Yoga Underground back in 2003 at the request of students who wanted to take a deep dive.

Personally, I was introduced to yoga on a rogue trip to India in 1991. I learned classical practices (asana, pranayama, meditation, fasting, silence and more) and had life changing experiences. Insight number one: I had no idea is was possible to feel so good!

Over the ensuing decades, I studied a great deal of asana with world renowned teachers and with a few home-grown favorites as well. Namaste Perry! I’ve also completed multiple 200 hour and 300 hour yoga teacher trainings with globally recognized instructors, including Baba Hari Dass.

The Denver Yoga Underground is a reflection of my best understanding of how to share classical yoga in contemporary society in a way that is both equitable and sustainable.

Welcome to the online home of the Zen Center of Denver! We are a Buddhist sangha (community) offering authentic Zen practice and training since our founding in 1974. Along with daily zazen (seated meditation), the ZCD offers a full range of opportunities for Zen training, including dokusan (private instruction with a teacher), samu (work practice), zazenkai (all-day sittings), and sesshin (week-long retreats).

Non-members are welcome to join us as guests for in-person events provided a) you are fully vaccinated, and b) you have attended either a beginners’ night or our introductory seminar by way of getting situated with the practice and our community. You may also be interested in our Intro to Zen audio series. If you are not vaccinated or simply feel more comfortable participating from home, we invite you to join us via Zoom.
