Register for one of our woodworking classes below. A calendar is provided below that shows the dates and times of available classes. To purchase, click on one of the PayPal buttons below. Once your payment is complete, you'll receive a confirmation from the instructor and you'll have the opportunity to pick your class directly with the instructor.

You will learn to safely use the table saw, jointer, planer, miter saw and router to build either a small table or small bookcase. You will learn the process of gluing up panels to look like one board. Then, you will learn a simple method of joinery that will allow you to build many other projects. The lessons learned in the beginner class are the most important lessons for all of your next projects. We learn how these machines work together to make a board square and straight. At the end, we learn how to finish the project to look professional with little effort. You will do the final finish at home, but we discuss how to make it look great with stain and top coat.

Beginner classes are offered once per month and the dates are listed on the calendar at the bottom of this page or on the Schedule Page. The beginner class is a two-day class from 9am-1pm both Saturday and Sunday (we often book quickly so we often offer an overflow class in the afternoon from 1pm-5pm). The main location for this class is 2555 S Santa Fe Unit F2, Denver. I also teach a one-day beginner class occasionally in Berthoud, Colorado. Yes, woodworking can be a very safe hobby if you have quality instruction. I have been teaching this beginner class for over 17 years and I have NEVER had any significant injury in this class.

NO, everything is included in the class cost. No surprise fees.

Yes, I do! You can purchase any class for your wife, husband, or friend and relax because it will never expire, and they can use the gift certificate for any class. You can purchase one class and if they decide they would rather take a different class, that is no problem. The money is transferable. I can also send you an electronic certificate for them upon request.

The intermediate class is a student directed class. In other words, you decide what you want to make and that is what we do as a team. We can guide you from design to completion. Some people already know what they want to make and some just want to learn skills. I have a great project for those just wanting to learn skills where you can learn dovetails, mortise and tenon, curves, and tapers in a small project that will not cost much for materials. Popular projects in this class are jewelry boxes, butcher blocks, coffee tables, dining tables, larger bookshelves, and cabinets. You are only limited by your imagination.

Yes, you will be responsible for purchasing your own materials and bringing them to the shop. You are welcome to leave materials at the shop, within reason, and if you are attending class each week.

For the fall 2021 semester, Red Rocks Community College will require everyone on campus to wear masks on campus. I addition, the Fine Woodworking department will hold face-to-face classes again, meeting once a week.

More than 50 courses are offered on a rotating basis, with specialties in turning, carving, inlay, veneer & marquetry, and cabinetmaking.

Open shop hours allow students access to the wood shop outside of class time to work on class projects.

The Fine Woodworking Program will show you the breadth of the woodworking industry. We will prepare you to work as a technical professional or project manager, or to work toward becoming a small business owner. Here are just a few of the careers in this field:

Instructors structure classes to include demonstrations of techniques followed by class time for students to practice them hands-on. Students translate these new skills into beautiful finished projects by the end of each semester. The Fine Woodworking Program hosts an exhibition of student works at the end of each fall and spring semester.

Furniture and cabinetry: tables, chairs, doors, and solid wood, veneer and laminate cabinets

Produce intricate wood objects and replicate furniture components in production mode using hardwoods and sheet goods

Red Rocks Community College offers exceptional guidance and resources for aspiring entrepreneurs. If you aim to start your own woodworking business after acquiring skills in the Fine Woodworking Program, consider taking the BUS102 Entrepreneurial Operations course in the RRCC Business Department. (It is a required course for the Associates of Applied Sciences in Fine Woodworking.) Also, stop by the Entrepreneurship Center at The HUB on the Lakewood campus to find out the wide array of resources available to those seeking to start their own businesses. Many of these services are free to RRCC students and alumni.

The Fine Woodworking Program works in interdisciplinary ways with the Business Department to enrich your educational experience. With an eye toward the woodworking industry, you can learn such foundational business concepts as competitive analysis, drafting a business plan, staffing and management, operations costs and logistics, and legal considerations. You will also have opportunities to interact with local woodworking businesses through on-site company tours and speaking events by working professionals and industry leaders.

The Fine Woodworking Program at the RRCC Lakewood campus offers shop space with six classrooms, machining areas, finishing lab, computer lab, CNC lab, laser lab, glue-up area, and workbenches and storage for students.

The Wood Shop power tools and machines include table saws, band saws, miter saws, a radial arm saw, jointers, planers, routers, track saws, drum sanders, domino machines, a panel saw, and more.
